Ingredients:
- 1 small sweet yellow onion chopped
- 1 egg well beaten
- 1⅓ lb. lean ground beef
- 1 tablespoon milk
- ½ teaspoon saffron sticks
- 1 clove garlic chopped
- ⅔ cup milk cracker crumbs
- ½ cup vegetable shortening for frying
- 1¼ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Instructions:
Step 1
Take the large mixing ceramic bowl, combine ground beef, cracker crumbs, onion, saffron, egg, milk, garlic, kosher salt, and black pepper until well combined—form meat mixture into twelve 3-inch patties approximately 1¼-inch thick.
Step 2
Put the large skillet over moderately high heat melt vegetable shortening. Sear the patties until golden brown, about 2 minutes per side. Reduce to low heat and continue cooking, uncovered, for approximately 20 minutes longer, or until cakes are no longer pink in the center.
Last Step
Remove patties from skillet and set aside until serving on paper towels.
